Sima is an independent editorial and commercial photographer, unit stills photographer and visual communicator based in Cairo who works throughout the region.

Her editorial photographic work focuses on features, daily life, environmental and social conditions in the Arab diaspora and Arab world including refugee and migration issues. 

Her work has been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, M Le Monde Magazine, BuzzfeedNews, LA Times, Bloomberg News, The Associated Press, Marie Claire, NRC Handelsblad, The Daily Telegraph, The Globe and Mail, Foreign Policy among others.

She has also produced international and regional work for aid organizations, like Plan International, MSF, Save the Children, UNFPA and MSIF.

As a unit stills photographer Sima has worked on productions with Netflix, The Discovery Channel and The Travel Channel.

In her capacity as a freelance photo editor she has worked with the independent bi-lingual news platform Mada Masr as a consultant photo editor and headed a 10-month visual project for Berlin-based Syria Untold looking back on 10 years of photography in Syria as told through Syrian photographers. 

She received the 2016 James Foley Award for Conflict Reporting, was a selected winner for American Photography Best of Photography 2015 AP32 and is a recipient of the 2015 grant  of the Arab Documentary Photography Program from AFAC/Prince Claus Fund and the Magnum Foundation.

Sima is part of The Kalish class of 2019 and awarded The John Ahlhauser and Bob Gilka Memorial Scholarship and was a portfolio reviewer for the Eddie Adams Workshop in 2020.

Finally, she is a member of the Overseas Press Club.
